One hundred and ten seniors in the Ren茅e Crown University Honors Program will present their capstone projects on Wednesday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Hall of Languages.
Senior Stacia Tsakonas presents her capstone research at the New York State Speech-Language Hearing Association annual convention in Saratoga Springs, April 20-22.
The presentation panels will run concurrently in 10 rooms throughout the building, except during lunch (11:30-1 p.m.), and are free and open to the University community.
Capstone projects are the culmination of three to four semesters of independent research, professional and creative work by students from across the schools and colleges of the University. Working with a faculty advisor, the students design, research and complete a significant project in their major field of study.
Among the topics that students are presenting on this year are Mayan hip-hop; unequal access to health care in the West Bank; the use of mail correspondence in the first women’s rights movement; the construction of gender in the Olympic games; mass adoption of virtual reality; the effects of corporate cell phones on workplace obligation; sexual and relationship violence prevention on campus; the effects of high-fat diets on learning; baseball players and their defenses of performance enhancing drugs; the impact of partisanship on the federal reserve; predicting the future of mass adoption of virtual reality; and the role of system xc- in 3-NP-induced neurodegenerative pathways.
Formats for the 15-20 minute presentations will include slide shows, websites, illustrations, films, readings and performance. Many of the students will also present or publish the results of their undergraduate research work at national and international conferences or in publications.
