Could a New Water Filtration System be on the Horizon for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ?

As an algae bloom clouded the typically clear Skaneateles Lake last week, much concern was drawn over the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ tap water, which is unfiltered water from the lake. If the blooms were to persist, the city would be faced with an expensive decision: building a filtration system between the lake and the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ watershed. For ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ.com, University Professor of Environmental Systems Charles Driscoll commented on the state of the lake.

“It’s been getting wetter and wetter in Upstate New York for 50 years,” he said, “and as it gets wetter you increase runoff to the lake.” These factors would contribute to more algae blooms, Driscoll added, who is also a waterfront Skaneateles resident.
