Call for Proposals: Goekjian Summer Research Grants—MES

Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs

Middle Eastern pattern-woodThe Middle Eastern Studies Program (MES) of the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs in the Maxwell School of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ will grant awards to Ph.D. and master’s candidates from any discipline to support field research in the Middle East during the summer of 2018. Any student enrolled in a Ph.D. or master’s program at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ may apply. The awards can be used to undergo advanced language training, gather data and increase competitiveness of future proposals for funding.

The awards are competitive, and proposals will be evaluated on the basis of (i) originality and significance of the proposed research/study, (ii) organization and clarity of the proposal, (iii) appropriateness and feasibility of the research/study plan in relation to the student’s background and qualifications, and (iv) cost effectiveness. You may apply for more than one summer grant from the Moynihan Institute, but you will not receive more than one in a given year. Other types of support that could exclude you from receiving a summer research grant include summer FLAS, summer de Sardon-Glass support, and other types of summer support from the Moynihan Institute.

Awards are ranked separately, so if your proposal is accepted by more than one committee, you will be awarded the better opportunity.

These awards are funded by a gift from Samuel V. Goekjian. A 1952 graduate of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, he spent his career involved in international business and legal issues around the world. A member of the Maxwell School Advisory Board, his Summer Research funds have supported 249 Goekjian Scholars.

DEADLINE: Thursday, Feb. 22, 2018

Complete guidelines are available at the Moynihan Institute of Global Affairs, 346 Eggers Hall.
