School of Information Studies

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost Michele G. Wheatly today announced the formation of a search committee for the next dean of the School of Information Studies (iSchool), following the planned retirement of Dean Liz Liddy. In early September, Dean Liddy announced that she would step down at the end of the 2018-19 academic year, giving the school adequate time to find her successor.

Chairing the iSchool Search Committee will be David Seaman, dean of libraries and University librarian. Other members of the search committee are:

  • Gene Anderson, dean, Whitman School
  • Craig Cornelius, chair, Board of Advisors, iSchool
  • Carolyn Haythornthwaite, professor and director of the M.S. in Library and Information Science program, iSchool
  • Jill Hurst-Wahl, associate professor of practice, iSchool
  • Chris Johnson, associate provost for academic affairs
  • Christine Larsen, Trustee, Board of Trustees; member, Board of Advisors, iSchool
  • Leonard Lopoo, professor, Maxwell School
  • Jae Oh, professor and chair, EECS, senator, College of Engineering and Computer Science
  • Jeffrey Rubin, member, Board of Advisors, iSchool, associate professor of practice, iSchool
  • Shanyah Saunders, undergraduate, Class of 2019, iSchool
  • Jennifer Stromer-Galley, professor, iSchool
  • Art Thomas, associate dean and professor of practice, iSchool
  • Sarah Weber, director of employer relations, iSchool
  • Lu Xiao, associate professor, senator, iSchool
  • Yaxing Yao, Ph.D. student, iSchool

“I have great confidence in Dean Seaman and the search committee to find just the right candidate to fill the huge shoes of Dean Liddy and continue to break new ground in this ever-evolving field,” says Provost Wheatly. “One of ϲ’s most prestigious colleges, the iSchool is nationally recognized for innovative programs in information policy, information behavior, information management, information systems, information technology, information services, data analytics and enterprise data systems.”

The search firm of Russell Reynolds Associates will be assisting the Search Committee in its work.
