“Theater of War”—an innovative public health performance presenting readings of ancient Greek plays as thought and discussion starters around social issues—will be staged on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Maxwell Auditorium in Maxwell Hall. The event will feature readings of Sophocles’ play “Ajax” to spark discussion around the impact of war and its challenges faced by military service members, veterans, their caregivers and their families.

Noted actors (“Law & Order,” “Nurse Jackie,” “The Following”), (“24,” “The Unit,” “Jericho”) and (“Trust,” “The Good Wife” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”) will lead the “Theater of War” performance.
“The ‘Theater of War’ performance is set to be extremely powerful and thought provoking,” says Kenneth Marfilius, visiting teaching professor in the Falk College’s School of Social Work and a U.S. Air Force veteran. “The event seeks to foster compassion and understanding between diverse audiences and in doing so works to bridge the divide between military and civilian communities.”

Co-founded by Bryan Doerries and Phyllis Kaufman, has facilitated events for more than 100,000 people, presenting over 20 tailored programs targeted to diverse communities across the globe. Actors who have performed “Theater of War” include Adam Driver, Jesse Eisenberg, Paul Giamatti, Jake Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard, Frances McDormand, Alfred Molina, Amy Ryan and Martin Sheen.
