ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Abroad

has recently ranked ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Abroad as the No. 11 best study abroad program in the country.

In spring 2019, U.S. News asked college presidents, deans and academic officers from more than 1,500 colleges and universities to nominate 15 institutions with exceptional study abroad programs. Colleges that received 10 or more nominations were ranked accordingly, with ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Abroad landing at No. 11 on the list. Criteria included academic curricula, length of opportunities offered and the student and cultural interaction while abroad. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ also ranks No. 3 among other top doctoral degree-granting Research 1 institutions, after New York University and Michigan State University.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Abroad continually ranks among the top study abroad providers in the nation due to its prestigious academic programs and superior student services abroad. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Abroad centers, extensions of the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ campus, are widely recognized for their focus on student success, the quality of their academic and cultural programming and their innovative experiential learning opportunities. The University operates centers in Florence, Italy; Hong Kong, China; London, England; Madrid, Spain; Santiago, Chile; and Strasbourg, France, as well as a Featured Program in Central Europe based in Wroclaw, Poland. They specialize in a wide range of professional and liberal arts disciplines. Each ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ center is managed by an academic director, along with multicultural staff, delivering unparalleled support services to students studying abroad. Staff abroad and on campus are dedicated to empowering students to reach their full potential abroad, academically and personally.

Other signature features of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Abroad programs include traveling seminars, cultural immersion through homestays, professional internships and community engagement opportunities. Traveling Signature Seminars provide students with the opportunity to travel for 10-14 days to explore multiple destinations before their semester abroad starts. These exciting, unique and academically rigorous seminars, run by highly experienced faculty and staff, provide students with much more than credit towards their degree–they also provide students with the tools to acclimate to their life abroad, to better understand their new home cities in a broader regional context and help students build new friendships and community.  These programs are designed to highlight critical global issues and themes such as the roots and implications of multi-layered European and national identities in Eastern/Central Europe or Ireland; economic and political challenges and opportunities in Southeast Asia (China, Malaysia and Singapore); sustainability and environmental justice in Scandinavia; or the significance of cuisine and culture in the Mediterranean. Signature seminars explore global issues through local perspectives, offering adventure and travel with academic purpose.

Students can also participate in internships abroad. Whether they enroll in the Academic Internship Program in Florence, a Representative Research Project in Hong Kong or one of many other opportunities, these unique experiences are built into curricula for students to utilize. Strasbourg students can even intern at the Council of Europe, an exclusive experience designed only for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ students. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Abroad is also known for its diligence in all matters relating to student safety and the holistic well-being of the whole student. Staff on campus work closely with local experts abroad, international partners and campus resources, including the State Department and International SOS travel guidance, to ensure the safety of all students studying abroad.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Abroad continues to deliver superior academic curricula abroad paired with experiential learning tailored to students’ needs and interests. Programs are designed for varying levels of immersion in order to meet students where they are. Whether students are looking for a semester-long experience, a summer program or short-duration course, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Abroad offers over 100 options in 60 different countries. And with the Fall 2020 application deadline approaching on March 15, it is recommended that students schedule time with their academic advisor and ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Abroad admissions counselors to learn more about their options.
