Meeting all interests and skill levels, the Barnes Center at The Arch provides students with opportunities to through a number of year-round outdoor adventure activities. Despite the current cold temperatures, the spring provide students with multiple opportunities to explore beyond campus.
Available trips range from visiting the Greek Peak indoor water park to cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, exploring the Grand Canyon and more. Interested students may learn about available options, pricing, trip details and register through the ; it’s accessible on any mobile device, and login is via the individual’s SU NetID and password.
“Outdoor Adventure trips are a great way for students to explore, meet new people and engage in physical activity—all while creating lifelong memories,” says Scott Catucci, associate director of outdoor education, esports and student development at the Barnes Center at The Arch. “Most trips require little to no experience and typically include all necessary instruction, equipment and transportation.”
Students are encouraged to explore the Wellness Portal each semester for available trips. Traditional include apple picking, horseback riding, mountain biking and white water rafting. Ski and snowboard trip registration traditionally opens at the end of the fall semester, and trips begin early in the spring semester.
In addition to Catucci’s leadership, a team of student supervisors help oversee trips. “SU Outdoor Adventure programs and activities provide students with opportunities to get off campus and explore the outdoors,” state McKinley Vrees ’20 and Monika Knickrehm ’23, outdoor adventure student supervisors at the Barnes Center at The Arch. “We’ve loved these trips so much, that we became trip leaders ourselves and encourage our peers to do the same.” Visit the Student Employment webpage for additional information on .
