In an opinion piece for U.S. News & World Report, Gump and Heffernan write that several factors could be behind reported drops in cardiac hospitalizations during the pandemic: 鈥淭o epidemiologists, data anomalies provide the potential for important new insights. We are currently facing a new anomaly with the rise in COVID-19 cases鈥攏amely, a concurrent decline in the number of hospital admissions for heart attacks and other cardiac events, by around 50 percent in some reports. There are a number of possible explanations for this drop, and depending on which is true, the implications are very different.鈥�
