Jaclyn Doyle, a rising fifth-year School of Architecture student from Hadley, Massachusetts, has been selected as the first recipient of the Connie Caldwell Summer Internship Award. Established in honor of Caldwell, the School of Architecture’s former director of career services, the award assists with expenses associated with an internship for one full-time architecture student each summer.

The creation of the award fund was prompted by The deGraffenried Foundation, whose members include School of Architecture alumni Garland deGraffenried ’09 (B. Arch.), managing director of development at SHVO, and Elizabeth Gralton ’08 (M.Arch.), architect at Luce et Studio; and Jason Renock ’10 (Whitman), project manager at Toll Brothers. The foundation sought a way to continue the impact and passion that Caldwell displayed while at the School of Architecture.
“Everyone who has contributed to this award feels fortunate to know Connie and continues to benefit from her generous spirit and dedication to helping us all pursue the field of architecture,” says Gralton. “Her guidance helped lead us to our first job opportunities and connected us with alumni who continue to foster our professional growth and career development. This award is a testament to her.”
During a time of such uncertainty in the world’s workforce, the first award selection was chosen from a very competitive applicant pool representing a wide range of internship opportunities. Doyle will receive $7,500 towards completing a summer internship with in Boston, Massachusetts this summer.
“I feel very lucky to tell firms I am a ϲ Architecture student because we are known for being dedicated, smart, hard workers who are always willing to go the extra mile—firms love ϲ students. It’s a community that I am proud to be included in,” says Doyle. “I am so honored to accept the Connie Caldwell Summer Internship Award so that I can continue to be a part of that legacy.”
