Florence Hudson, energy and environment executive with IBM Corp., will speak as part of The HUB 2010 Fall Speaker Series on Wednesday, Oct. 27.
Hudson’s presentation, “IBM Smarter Planet Strategy,” will begin at 2 p.m. in the Katzer Collaboratory, room 347 of Hinds Hall, and is free and open to the public.
Today, it is not a question as to whether the technology to build a smarter planet is real. A smarter planet requires a profound shift in management and governance toward far more collaborative approaches. During her presentation, Hudson will share her expertise on how energy, environment and sustainability initiatives build a smarter planet.
Hudson is responsible for developing strategies and execution plans for green solutions to benefit clients in their goals to improve their impact on energy and the environment worldwide. These green solutions include energy-efficient technologies and services; green data centers; intelligent buildings, transportation systems and utility networks; water and carbon management; smarter cities; and research, development and deployment.
In her prior role, Hudson was the IBM vice president of marketing and strategy for IBM System z mainframes globally, driving over $2 billion a year in marketing-led revenue, and developing new business partner programs and solutions worldwide.
She was also executive-on-loan and IBM vice president of strategic planning to the Society of Women Engineers. In that role, she developed and executed new programs to inspire more women and girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics–STEM fields–worldwide.
Hudson also served as vice president of strategy and marketing and acting chief technology officer for the IBM Global Industrial sector, responsible for strategic business growth with IBM’s clients in aerospace, defense, automotive, chemicals, petroleum, electronics and industrial products businesses globally.
Her prior roles included IBM vice president and director of corporate strategy responsible for strategic growth, where she worked with IBM senior executives and their teams to identify and develop emerging business opportunities. She has held a variety of leadership positions in sales, marketing, development, channels, strategy and management. Prior to IBM, Hudson worked for Hewlett-Packard, Grumman Corp. and NASA.
