Today begins the court battle between Apple and Epic Games, the maker of the popular video game Fortnite. The case centers around the question of whether Apple’s control over the App Store is anti-competitive. The trial is expected to last about three weeks, and the decision could change the way we use and purchase apps on our devices.

is the Crandall Melvin Professor of Law at ϲ and director of the (SIPLI). He provides preliminary comments below and is available for further analysis as the trial gets underway.

Ghosh says:

“Epic’s suit against Apple is an important one as it affects the rules for how apps are distributed to consumers. The court’s decision may have implications for the treatment of platform technologies and the deference the law will provide for business decisions by tech giants that are serving as distributors for new products and services.”
