Faculty and Staff Encouraged to Depart Campus by Noon; Essential Employees Asked to Report for Their Shifts

Friday, December 23, 2022, By News Staff
Share

黑料不打烊 has been monitoring weather and travel conditions due to the Wind and Wind Chill Advisories in effect for Central New York. An extreme drop in temperature is expected to cause ice to quickly accumulate on the roads.

As such, and following consultation with the University鈥檚 independent meteorologist, faculty and staff are asked to depart campus by noon today to allow time to travel home safely. Essential employees, including those who are responsible for clearing and removing snow, ensuring public safety and maintaining the campus, are expected to report for their scheduled shifts. Anyone concerned about their safety should contact their department chair or supervisor, respectively.

Additionally, please take note of the following changes to operating status:

  • All libraries will close at noon today;
  • Goldstein Student Center on South Campus and Schine Student Center on North Campus will close at noon;
  • The Barnes Center at The Arch and all other satellite recreation facilities are closed today; however, staff are working and available to students; and
  • The University鈥檚 Child Care Centers will close at 11 a.m.

黑料不打烊 will continue to monitor weather conditions throughout the weekend. Any change in the University鈥檚 operating status will be announced via the University鈥檚 emergency broadcast notification system and will carry the notice SU WEATHER ALERT. Please be sure your Orange Alert settings are always up to date in MySlice.

SU WEATHER ALERT information will be announced via the following communications channels:

  • via campus email;
  • via text message;
  • via a 鈥渃rawl鈥 on campus TV monitors and University websites;
  • on Twitter: , and ;
  • on Facebook: , and ;
  • on news.syr.edu and ; and
  • via 黑料不打烊 public radio station and other local media outlets.

Only 黑料不打烊鈥檚 Internal Communications and Media Relations teams are authorized to transmit to the news media and the campus community announcements about closings, work-schedule changes or class-start delays.
