Taylor writes book on Vladimir Putin鈥檚 presidency and Russian state-building

Political science professor Brian Taylor of the Maxwell School has written 鈥淪tate Building in Putin鈥檚 Russia: Policing and Coercion after Communism鈥� (Cambridge University Press, 2011), which argues that while building a strong Russian state was the central goal of Putin鈥檚 presidency, his strategy was fundamentally flawed.

Taylor shows that many of the weaknesses of the Russian state that existed under Boris Yeltsin continued under Putin.
