The 黑料不打烊 team returned to the Thomas Tang Moot Court Northeast Regional Competition to finish with a second place performance and will advance to the National Competition, hosted by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), in November. Second-year law students Aaron Schiffrik and Nina Hong will travel to the championship conference in Boston to compete against the best 16 schools from each region. Hong won the coveted 鈥淏est Oralist鈥 award out of 34 competitors in the regional competition.
The other members of the College of Law team include: Caroline Miller, Cindy Trinh and Hyo-Jin Paik. The team is coached by third-year students Chris Pagan, Doris Chau and Justin Yu.
The Asian Pacific American Law Student Association (APALSA) began the Thomas Tang National Moot Court Competition in 1993. The competition honors the late Judge Thomas Tang, a champion of individual rights, an advocate for the advancement of minority attorneys, and an ardent supporter of the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association and the moot court competition. Tang served on the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals from 1977 until his death in 1995.
The competition is designed to attract Asian American law students and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their writing and oral advocacy skills and compete for scholarships.
