How green is Hollywood? Get a sneak peek at what going green in the film industry really entails at the screening of 鈥淕reenlit,鈥� an original film-within-a-film documentary about producing a sustainable Hollywood picture. 鈥淕reenlit鈥� will be shown on Tuesday, April 10, at 7 p.m. in Watson Theater in the Menschel Media Center as part of the documentary series. Admission is free and open to the public.
According to a UCLA study, the film and television industry is the third biggest polluter in Los Angeles. In questioning the industry鈥檚 environmental impact, director Miranda Bailey puts their green commitment to the test as she follows the production of 鈥淭he River Why,鈥� which has hired a sustainability consultant to make the set greener. Bailey鈥檚 eco-documentary takes viewers through a well-intentioned, revealing and amusing attempt at moviemaking that treads lightly on the environment.
奥丑颈濒别听鈥溾€� uncovers the difficulties of going green on a movie set, it also provides insight into the money-saving opportunities of creating a sustainable film, such as various reuse and recycling initiatives. How does everyone behind the scenes get involved in successfully creating a green Hollywood film? Join us to learn more about the challenges faced and the efforts made in moving toward a more sustainable entertainment industry.

Next up is 鈥淲aste Land,鈥� an artistic documentation of the world鈥檚 largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro and its 鈥渃atadores鈥濃€攕elf-designated pickers of recyclable materials. 鈥淲aste Land鈥� will be the final film in the Showcase documentary series, and is scheduled to screen on Tuesday, April 17.
听is a campuswide, Earth Week celebration of students鈥� sustainability work and green ideas across the energy, entertainment and plastics industries. The event鈥攇eared toward all SU and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry听 students鈥攊s also open to the public and will be held all day on Wednesday, April 18, in SU鈥檚 Schine Student Center.
