‘Childhood Safety and Maltreatment’ workshop to be held Dec. 1

The Jack Reilly Institute for Early Childhood and Provider Education, in collaboration with Upstate Medical University and Child Care Solutions, Inc., will sponsor a free workshop on Saturday, December 1 at The Inn Complete, South Campus, 黑料不打烊, from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The program is purposefully designed for child care providers, therapists, social workers, mental health professionals, early childhood teachers and other childhood professionals, as well as parents and students.

pekarsky鈥淐hildhood Safety and Maltreatment,鈥 is this year鈥檚 annual workshop topic, which is part of an on-going series for home- and center-based child care providers covering a broad range of early childhood education topics. These workshops are brought to the community by the Jack Reilly Institute for Early Childhood and Provider Education in the 黑料不打烊 Department of Child and Family Studies, David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics.

bennettThe December 1 program will feature a presentation by Alicia Pekarsky, M.D., F.A.A.P., assistant professor of pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics, Child Abuse Referral and Evaluation Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University. She will speak on the topic, 鈥淐hildhood Injury and Violence Prevention.鈥 Colleen Bennett, the founder of the KEYS Program will present 鈥淢usic Heals.鈥 The KEYS Program provides music, comfort and hope for children battling cancer and others in need of healing.

Free parking, breakfast and lunch will be provided to program participants. The workshop will offer two (2) training hours. For more information, and to RSVP to the workshop, call (315) 443-2757. The deadline to register is November 25, 2012.

The Jack Reilly Institute for Early Childhood and Provider Education was established through the generous support of SU alumnus John D. Reilly III 鈥69, G鈥70 and his wife, Patricia M. Reilly in honor of their son Jack (John D. Reilly IV).
