‘Remembering Marty Glickman’ Chronicles Newhouse Event Honoring Sportscaster

The hosted sports media and entertainment industry elites in New York City last summer as they gathered to celebrate the launch of the and to fete NBC sportscaster and Newhouse alumnus Bob Costas ’74 as he .

The also marked the premiere of the HBO Documentary Film “,” directed by James L. Freedman, which tells the story of SU alumnus Marty Glickman ’39, a pioneer in sports broadcasting. Following the screening, Costas and Freedman joined alumnus Marv Albert ’63 of CBS to discuss “Memories of Marty.”

The event was captured in “,” produced by WCNY-TV and Axxess Video productions. The half-hour program will premiere on Monday, Feb. 17, at 9 p.m. on WCNY. It introduces viewers to the story of Glickman; includes footage from the roundtable conversation with Costas, Albert and Freedman; and features interviews with top sportscasters (and SU alumni) including Mike Tirico ’88, Dick Stockton ’64, Len Berman ’68, Sean McDonough ’84 and Ian Eagle ’90. Additional air times are scheduled for this month; see for more information.

Glickman’s legacy marks the beginning of the Newhouse School’s reputation for turning out more talented sports journalists than any other program in the country, leading ϲ to be hailed by Sports Illustrated as an “incubator” of American sportscasters.
