Taylor Baucom, a graduate student in the ’s (MPD), won first place in the White House News Photographers Association’s “2014 Eyes of History” student video contest, in the sports category.

Her winning video, “,” focuses on the ϲ Crunch ice hockey team. Baucom worked with SU alumni Maggie Walters ’09 and Dan D’uva ’07 on the story, which she shot at the ϲ War Memorial. “The Crunch is very involved in the community, and impacts people on and off the ice,” she says.
Baucom earned an undergraduate degree in communications and psychology from Illinois College, and says she has enjoyed building upon that knowledge as she pursues a master’s in photography. “Although most of my focus is on sports photography, I am drawn to documenting, through still and moving images, the lives of people I come into contact with.”
For the past year and a half, Baucom has been working on a about a local 16-year-old girl who was paralyzed from the chest down in a car accident at age six, a project Baucom began as part of MPD’s annual . The story tied for gold in the Domestic Picture Story category of the College Photographer of the Year competition last fall.
She is also working on a master’s thesis project that provides interactive platforms for families of children with Down Syndrome.
