As a way of giving back to those who have served, SU law students, alumni and local volunteers will partner鈥攆or the third time鈥攖o provide free legal and advocacy services for veterans, service members and their families.
The event will be held on Saturday, April 5, from 9 a.m. -1 p.m. at the on the second floor of White Hall. Free parking is available in the Irving Garage at 141 Stadium Place. Additionally, the Disabled American Veterans organization will provide free transportation services to the event for interested parties throughout central, northern and southern New York.
Services include legal advice, tax returns, readjustment and vocational counseling, resume reviews, and credit counseling services. The College of Law looks to build on the success of its first two Valor Day events that served more than 160 veterans, service members and their families. 鈥淰alor Day is a great opportunity to leverage the local legal community and support groups for the families and warriors who have served or continued to serve our nation,鈥 says VISION member Lt. Col. (Ret.) Dave Reardon, U.S. Army.
Valor Day will also include a veterans鈥 information fair. Representatives from more than 25 veteran and government organizations will be on site to discuss their services and provide information. 鈥淭he legal services allow transitioning veterans to focus on other aspects of their lives, and the information fair provides them with the contacts they need to help them cope with the transition process,鈥 says VISION member and U.S. Army veteran Staff Sgt. Joel Deland.聽
All veterans, service members and their immediate families are welcome to attend. Appointments are encouraged for financial, legal and counseling services.
