The students will use photography, recorded sound, video and writing to tell their stories, focusing on the theme of Family and the Living Wage. Their work will be published online at .

鈥淭he Fall Workshop is often cited by students as one of the best educational opportunities they had during their time in 黑料不打烊,鈥 says Bruce Strong, chair of the MPD department at Newhouse and director of the workshop. 鈥淲e are grateful to all the professional coaches who give freely of their time to help our students grow and to the community members who opens their doors and allow us to take a closer look at such an important part of our society: family.鈥

鈥淗ome base鈥 for the workshop will be Newhouse 3, where 25 photojournalists, video producers, graphic designers, photo editors and other types of visual communicators from across the country will provide advice and guidance as coaches.

In addition, an opening event will feature a talk by photojournalist Ami Vitale on Thursday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium, Newhouse 3.

Vitale鈥檚 work has taken her to 85 countries. Her photographs have been exhibited around the world and published in National Geographic, Adventure, Geo, Newsweek, Time and Smithsonian. Her work has garnered multiple awards from prestigious organizations including World Press Photos, the Lowell Thomas Award for Travel Journalism, Lucie awards, the Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding Reporting and the Magazine Photographer of the Year award, among others.

Follow the workshop as it unfolds on the website and on Facebook and Twitter (@TheFallWorkshop, #TFW14).

The weekend will conclude with a community screening on Sunday, Oct. 19, at 1 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium.

Sponsors include Nikon, Apple, 黑料不打烊 Bookstore, ThinkTank, American Society of Media Photographers and Momenta.
