Emme, a graduate of the (痴笔础),听partnered with VPA鈥檚 fashion design program聽last year to launch 鈥淔ashion without Limits,鈥 a design competition that promotes the creation of size 12+ designs by juniors in the program. The students worked exclusively with dress forms donated by Wolf Form Co. in sizes 16, 18 and 20.聽The results will be showcased during the fashion show鈥檚 closing segment.

The fashion and beauty communications milestone is an academic sequence open to students in the and the fashion design program. Each year they stage a fashion show that explores an issue discussed in the mass media.

鈥淭his year we tackle education,鈥 says milestone director Carla Lloyd, 鈥渁 hot-button issue at all levels, be it the K-12 debate over standardized curricula and testing, the astronomical cost of college, soaring student debt or inequities of dollars spent on community college vs. university students and urban vs. suburban schools.鈥

The show will include eight segments featuring clothing and accessories from area Thrifty Shopper stores, styled by milestone students and designed by fashion design students to materialize real-life education issues. Segments include:

  • 鈥淪tandardized Testing鈥濃攚hich will take an in-depth look at school uniforms;
  • 鈥淩ebel with a Cause鈥濃攚hich will examine periods of history where youth rebelled against the status quo through bold looks;
  • 鈥淎nd the Winner is 鈥︹濃攚hich will showcase movies that have caused fashion movements; and
  • 鈥淔ashion Without Limits鈥濃攚hich will feature original clothing for sizes 12+ created by fashion design students.

The show will open with a musical performance and will close with a performance by DanceWorks.

The fashion and beauty communications milestone allows students to explore fashion and beauty through the lens of communications. Coursework, which is drawn from both Newhouse and VPA, covers such topics as the history of fashion; contemporary fashion in popular culture; visual communications; fashion advertising and promotion; fashion photography; and beauty and fashion journalism.

The show is free and open to the public, but online registration is required at .
