Students, faculty and staff from ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ were among the winners of this year’s ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Press Club Awards.

WAER broadcasters and staff were honored with several awards in both news and sports categories. The station’s work won the categories of Best Radio Sports Show and Best Radio Sports Story. WAER’s Newscast was also judged Best Regularly Scheduled Local Newscast.

Student broadcast journalists at WAER also picked up Best Sports Show honors for the “Countdown to Kickoff Show” (for the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ vs. Notre Dame broadcast). It was hosted by Eric Gallanty ’15 and produced by Evan Weston ’15. The show “ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Soccer Success,” hosted by Bailey Lipschultz ’16 and Dan Silverman ’16, was awarded second place in the Best Sports Show category.

The 5:30 newscast, anchored by Chris Bolt, with writing and reporting by Scott Willis and John Smith, was selected Best Regularly Scheduled Radio Newscast.

A news story titled “Lime Shortage Due to Drug Cartels,” reported by Helena Battipaglia ’16, was also a winner, placing second in the News Feature category. Other stories that aired on WAER and gained honors included: Best Human Interest Feature for the story “The Case of the Disappearing Tony Awards: Sound Design by Randy Wenner;” “ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Nats 50th Anniversary” by Jay Alter’15 was Best Sports Story (student division); “Father and Son Coaching Relationship” by Sam Hyman ’16 earned honors for Sports Story (student division); “Summer Camp for Kids Promotes Environmental Awareness” by Sarah Brechbill won second place for Radio Feature Story (student division); and “High School Credit Union Makes Financial Sense” by Sawyer Rosenstein ’15 won second place for Best Radio News Story (student division).
