Nominees Sought for Judith Seinfeld Distinguished Fellows Faculty Award

The Office of the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs has issued a call to academic deans and department heads to submit faculty nominations for the Judith Seinfeld Distinguished Fellows Award.

The award, which carries a $10,000 restriction-free grant for honorees, recognizes those who have made an outstanding contribution through artistic or academic endeavors. It acknowledges recipients’ passion for excellence, creativity and originality, as well as their ability to motivate and inspire the best in others.

Established in 2004, the award was made possible by a gift from Judith Greenberg Seinfeld ’56, distinguished alumna of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and life member of the University’s Board of Trustees. The endowment honors Chancellor Emeritus Kenneth A. Shaw and Mary Ann Shaw in recognition of their years of devoted service to the University.

Faculty do not apply for the award. Rather, Distinguished Fellows are selected from nominations submitted by the academic deans to a selection committee composed of active and retired members of the University faculty. The committee reviews the nominations, and the Chancellor makes the final selection.

While there are no restrictions on the funds, they are intended to encourage honorees in their work, and make possible an initiative or project of special interest to the recipient. The designation is not intended as a prize for past accomplishments so much as encouragement and stimulation for future contributions to society and continued outstanding performance.

Preference is given to faculty members who received their terminal degrees within the past 12 years.

For the 2016 award year, academic deans are asked to submit their nominations by Feb. 22.

For more information about the Judith Seinfeld Distinguished Fellows Program, including a list of previous honorees, go to the program website .
