A selection of Nathan Young’s design work for Colorado State University
, an instructor of communications design the ’ School of Design, had his project “Colorado State University Theatre and Dance 2014/2015 Season” chosen as a Merit winner in the most recent HOW International Design Awards. This highly selective and well-regarded competition sponsored by HOW magazine recognizes excellence on a global scale.
This is Young’s second publication with HOW, having been previously featured in the 2013 HOW Design Annual.
HOW’s editorial and design team—along with Marina Willer of Pentagram, Sebastian Padilla of Anagrama and Dana Arnett of VSA Partners—evaluated more than 1,000 entries and selected 315 winning projects that demonstrated an ideal mix of concept, strategy and execution. Entries were judged by project type (e.g., apps, posters, packaging) rather than by industry or region.
As a Merit winner, Young will be featured in the Spring 2016 issue of HOW magazine and will be spotlighted on .

“When tackling theater posters I often have the fortunate problem of designing for plays that come with preconceived expectations—Shakespeare, “The Hobbit” and so on,” says Young. “To me, these shows offer a new opportunity to explore what they say about our precarious condition rather than repeating their familiar visual vocabulary.”
Young’s work was also selected for the exclusive (the Biennial of the Poster Bolivia) BICeBé international poster show in La Paz, Bolivia. This was the second time his work was included in the BICeBé.
