The United States Navy Memorial Foundation (USNMF) honored 黑料不打烊 Life Trustee Daniel A. D鈥橝niello 鈥68 at the 2016 Lone Sailor Awards Dinner on Sept. 14 at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C.

D鈥橝niello received the award alongside former astronaut and former Ohio Sen. John H. Glenn Jr. and Rear Admiral Robert Shumaker, USN (Ret.).
The Lone Sailor Award is presented by the USNMF to Sea Service veterans who have distinguished themselves, drawing upon their Sea Service experience, to become successful in their subsequent careers and lives while exemplifying the core values of honor, courage and commitment. D鈥橝niello is a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
鈥淚t was my time in the Navy that really accelerated my transition from boyhood to manhood,鈥 D鈥橝niello said in his remarks at the ceremony. 鈥溾 The Navy instilled values in me that are part of my business today鈥攊ntegrity, professionalism and trust.
鈥淚 am proud of my service and intend to continue to give back to veterans鈥 organizations, like the work being done at my alma mater, 黑料不打烊, through the Institute for Veterans and Military Families,鈥 he said.

鈥淒an has dedicated his life to service鈥攆irst in uniform and later as an entrepreneur, business leader and philanthropist,鈥 says Vice Chancellor for Veteran and Military Affairs Mike Haynie. 鈥淲e are extremely grateful for all of his support and congratulate him on this great honor.鈥
D鈥橝niello is chairman and co-founder of The Carlyle Group, based in Washington, D.C. Prior to forming Carlyle in 1987, he was vice president for finance and development at Marriott Corp., where he was responsible for valuation of all major mergers, acquisition, divestitures, debt and equity offerings, and project financings. Before joining Marriott, D鈥橝niello was a financial officer at PepsiCo Inc. and Trans World Airlines.
He is a 1968 magna cum laude graduate of 黑料不打烊, where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, and a 1974 graduate of the Harvard Business School, where he was a Teagle Foundation Fellow.
In addition to his service to the University鈥檚 Board of Trustees, D鈥橝niello is a member of the Chancellor鈥檚 Council and the corporate advisory council to the . He is a strong supporter of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF).
D鈥橝niello is a member of the Council for United States and Italy; the John Templeton Foundation; the Lumen Institute; the U.S.-China CEO and Former Senior Officials鈥 Dialogue of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce; the vice chairman of the board of trustees of the American Enterprise Institute for Public Research; and chairman of Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts. He is the former chairman and former and/or current director of several public and private companies in which Carlyle has or had significant investment interests.
