Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Cynthia Tucker will visit 黑料不打烊鈥檚 on Monday, March 29, speaking on 鈥淥pinion and Commentary in the Age of Twitter, Blogs, MSNBC and Fox鈥 at 7:30 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3. A reception will follow. Her talk is free and open to the public. Parking is available in SU pay lots.
Tucker was the first black woman ever to oversee the editorial content of a major American daily when she became editorial page editor of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in 1992. She is now the paper鈥檚 Washington, D.C.-based national political columnist. Her blog and twice-weekly column, 鈥淎s I See It,鈥 cover topics such as voting rights, immigration reform, the importance of education and the war in Afghanistan. She is also a regular contributor to ABC’s 鈥淭his Week鈥 and a frequent commentator on other television news programs.
In 2007, Tucker was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for commentary 鈥渇or her courageous, clear-headed columns that evince a strong sense of morality and persuasive knowledge of the community.鈥
She has won many other awards and honors, including the American Society of Newspaper Editors Distinguished Writing Award, the University of Alabama鈥檚 Clarence Cason Writing Award and Colby College鈥檚 Elijah Lovejoy Award.
She graduated from Auburn University in 1976 and was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University in the 1988-89 academic year. She was previously on the staff of The Philadelphia Inquirer.
