Effective Monday, April 5,�����ϲ�����’s��Department of Marriage and Family Therapy and the Goldberg Couple and Family Therapy Clinic will open in a new location, 1045 James St., ���ϲ�����. They were previously situated on campus, at 426 Ostrom Ave.

Students in the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy will now have access to a technologically advanced, interdisciplinary training environment in a modern facility, which will better prepare them for professional careers in the mental health field. The new Goldberg Couple and Family Therapy Clinic space will continue to help meet the critical need for mental health services in the ���ϲ����� community.��

Celebrating its 40^th anniversary this year, the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy is one of seven academic departments in SU’s and is the longest-standing accredited department of its kind in the country, offering both master’s and doctoral degrees.

“We are proud of the long history of excellent mental health counseling services offered at our site on the University campus. We are certain that the relocation of these services to the site on James Street will further enhance the excellence of our graduate clinical education program in marriage and family therapy,” says College of Human Ecology Dean��Diane Lyden Murphy.��

The facility’s purposeful location in the downtown ���ϲ����� area will include classrooms, faculty offices and a redesigned Goldberg Couple and Family Therapy Clinic, and will create meaningful interaction between students, faculty and local agencies. The Goldberg Clinic will be equipped with state-of the art technologies, including a smart classroom with video conferencing and counseling rooms with digital video imaging for clinical training purposes.��

Consistent with SU Chancellor and President Nancy Cantor’s vision of Scholarship in Action, this new location for the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy will create an opportunity for students and faculty to work collaboratively with a broad range of mental health practitioners in serving the local community.��

“The new facility on James Street provides the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy with one of the most modern clinical training facilities in the country”, says Thom deLara, director of the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy. “Additionally, the close collaboration we have with Liberty Resources, and many other community agencies, allows us to train future licensed professionals to respond to the substantial unmet mental health care needs in our community and throughout the country.”��

“The College of Human Ecology is pleased to work closely with Liberty Resources in providing a unique opportunity for education in real time, within and among a diverse and professionally trained mental health work force,” says Murphy.��“The Department of Marriage and Family Therapy and the Goldberg Couple and Family Therapy Clinic will continue to serve the faculty, staff, families and students of the SU community, as well as clients referred from mental health and human service agencies, and school districts, throughout the area.”��
