SU to host special event with Emmy Award-winning writer, producer, director Bill Persky 鈥�53 in New York City May 5

黑料不打烊 and the Bleier Center for Television and Popular Culture in the will host a special event with Emmy Award-winning writer, director and producer Bill Persky 鈥�53 on Wednesday, May 5, in New York City.

鈥淔rom 鈥楾hat Girl鈥� to 鈥楥ougars鈥�: How Laughter Helped Move the Women鈥檚 Movement Forward,鈥� an informal conversation with Persky moderated by Newhouse School professor Robert Thompson, will be held at 7 p.m. at SU’s Joseph I. Persky is a five-time Emmy Award winner for such shows as 鈥淭he Dick Van Dyke Show,鈥� 鈥淭hat Girl,鈥� 鈥淪id Caesar,鈥� 鈥淏ill Cosby鈥� and 鈥淜ate & Allie.鈥�

After a start at WNEW radio in the mid-1950s, he moved to California and wrote for a variety of shows, including 鈥淭he Steve Allen Show,鈥� 鈥淭he Andy Williams Show,鈥� 鈥淛ulie Andrews Show,鈥� 鈥淢cHale鈥檚 Navy鈥� and 鈥淭he Joey Bishop Show,鈥� until he found a home with Carl Reiner on 鈥淭he Dick Van Dyke Show.鈥� After three years as a writer, story editor and winner of two Emmys, Persky and his partner, Sam Denoff, created 鈥淭hat Girl鈥� for Marlo Thomas.

In the 1980s, Persky moved to New York to produce and direct 100 episodes of the series 鈥淜ate & Allie,鈥� winning an Emmy for directing.

Thompson is founding director of the Bleier Center and a professor of television-radio-film in the Newhouse School.

The event is co-sponsored by SU, the Bleier Center, the Newhouse School and Pathfinders.
