Local Internship Fair connects SU students with more than 90 Central New York employers

Internships are key opportunities for students to gain hands-on professional experience and make connections in their career fields. Last year, more than 25 percent of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ graduates received full-time job offers as a result of their internships.

On Wednesday, Sept. 29, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ will host the Local Internship Fair from 11 a.m.-2 p.m in the Panasci Lounge of the Schine Student Center. The event, in its third year, will bring together more than 90 Central New York employers with hundreds of SU students in search of internships. Among the participating employers are American Red Cross, the Post Standard, SUNY Upstate Medical University, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Symphony Orchestra and the Oncenter.

Supporting the University’s vision of strengthening ties with the surrounding community, the Local Internship Fair will help students identify opportunities to engage in meaningful internship experiences within Central New York. Employers from a variety of industries will be represented. Many of these employers offer internships during the fall, spring and summer.

“Local employers are eager to tap into the talents of SU students, while SU students are interested in gaining early professional experience and applying their classroom knowledge in work settings,” says Mike Cahill, director of Career Services. “The Local Internship Fair provides a perfect opportunity for these two groups to connect.”

In previous years, more than 800 students have attended the Local Internship Fair and sparked relationships with participating employers, resulting in many successful internship connections.

Students interested in attending the Local Internship Fair on Sept. 29 are encouraged to view the full list of participating employers on the Career Services website  at . Suggested attire for the event is business casual.

For more information about the Local Internship Fair, contact Jennifer Pluta, internship coordinator in Career Services, at jrpluta@syr.edu, or 443-3616.
