The chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP), a service fraternity that includes accounting, finance and information studies majors, has been named the 2011 Most Improved Chapter by BAP. The chapter was also given superior status for 2011.
Most improved status is given annually to one BAP chapter internationally, in recognition of an active chapter that has shown the most significant increase in service and activity over the year. This is the first time that the Whitman chapter has received this recognition.
Superior status is given to a select number of BAP chapters internationally, based on overall activity. The recognition is based on the percentage of members who actively engage in outstanding service to the community, as well as outreach to the profession. This is the first time that the BAP chapter at Whitman has earned the honor since 1998. In 2011, 139 chapters were selected for superior status.
These accomplishments will be publicly acknowledged at the BAP annual meeting in Denver next month, with the presentation of a plaque and check. Whitman’s chapter is recipient of a 2011 BAP Diversity Award, sponsored by Ernst & Young.
“Receiving the Most Improved Chapter Award is not an easy feat for BAP chapters,” says Mitch Franklin, assistant professor of accounting practice in Whitman’s Lubin School of Accounting and Whitman BAP chapter adviser. “Few chapters have been able to accomplish both this honor and superior recognition at the same time. This demonstrates the outstanding dedication of our students and the priority they have placed on themselves to be active in both the community and profession. Their active involvement in BAP is a testament to why Whitman alumni are so successful in their careers. Certainly, our current BAP students will continue to be just as successful upon graduation.”
