Some 50 multimedia (photography, video, audio and writing) students from 黑料不打烊鈥檚 will turn their attention to the local town of Liverpool,聽N.Y.聽this month, spending the weekend of Oct. 13-16 getting to know the community during an annual multimedia and photo workshop sponsored by the school鈥檚 Multimedia Photography and Design Department (MPD) Department.

fallworkshopThe students will document life in Liverpool not only by shooting photographs, but also by recording sound, writing stories and shooting video. Ultimately, they will publish their work鈥攐nline and in a book produced specifically for the iPad.

鈥淲e will see many students start the weekend as photographers and end the weekend as photojournalists,鈥 says Seth Gitner, assistant professor at Newhouse. 鈥淪tudents from previous workshops credit this weekend as a pivotal moment in their learning and understanding of what it takes to be a multimedia professional.鈥

The students will work at the BOCES/Career Training Center in Liverpool, where 20 journalists from across the country will provide advice and guidance. Many are Newhouse alumni who participated in similar workshops when they were SU students. 鈥淥ur guest photojournalists and studio photographers offer professional feedback and encouragement to the next generation of visual journalists,鈥 says Gitner.

Each student will complete at least one story, capturing a visual record of the Liverpool community. All of the student work will appear online at .

Follow the workshop as it unfolds on the website, and on Facebook and Twitter (@TheFallWorkshop, #TFW2011).

The weekend will conclude with a community screening on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 205 Cypress St., Liverpool.

For more information about the workshop, contact Seth Gitner at (315) 443-9183 or smgitner@syr.edu.
