—the campuswide, spring academic event celebrating the “green economy” this year—is seeking students to share their bold and creative visions for a greener future. Applicants for the SU Showcase video competition will be considered for a limited number of sustainability fellowships. Fellows will be recognized during the April 18-19 event and have a shot at receiving one of two $250 awards. 

All ���ϲ����� and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY-ESF) students are welcome to apply. The application deadline is March 30. 

To apply, students must submit a short, original video in response to the question: What should we do in the next five years to move toward a more sustainable world? The video pitches must offer solutions that can reduce the environmental and/or social impacts of human behavior. They could take a variety of forms, such as a design or product idea, a policy, an awareness campaign or educational project. Special consideration will be given to ideas with a local focus that can be applied nationally or globally, and to ideas related to the energy, plastics or entertainment industries. Individual and team projects are welcome, and multidisciplinary student teams are encouraged. 

“We know that students care deeply about a sustainable future and there are lots of creative ideas out there,” says Rachel May, SU’s coordinator for . “We want to celebrate those ideas, and we hope they will come from a wide variety of disciplines and perspectives. This is a great opportunity for students to communicate their solutions to the whole campus.” 

All accepted videos will be screened at SU Showcase on April 18. Twelve sustainability fellows will be selected, and they will be asked to create posters outlining the main point of their videos. Fellows will receive campuswide recognition and a dinner in their honor, as well as funds to defray the cost of producing the poster about their projects. Grand prizes of $250 in the individual and team categories will be awarded during SU Showcase.

SU Showcase for Sustainability 2012 will be held all day on April 18 in Schine Student Center, and feature a green career fair on April 19 at the ���ϲ����� Center of Excellence.
