Legendary recording artist CeCe Winans will perform at the Lovie Lee Emory Awards Show at SRC Arena and Events Center at OCC on Saturday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in celebration of the Urban School Partnership with Inter-faith leaders for Student Achievement. The Lovie Lee Emory Initiative sponsors major platforms to recognize the work of churches and congregations across America that benefit youth in urban communities. Winans’ performance will support ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ faith-based youth programs that are developed and implemented through churches across the city in partnership with the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ City School District.

Alexis Spight, Black Entertainment Televisioin’s Sunday Best finalist, will also perform and Pastor Daren C. Jaime from People’s A.M.E. Zion church will provide the inspirational address. Travis Malloy, an emerging new artist sensation from Pittsburgh will perform for an audience of high school and college students at the pre-awards show, beginning at 5 p.m.
Twenty-five church leaders formed a task force last year in support of urban schools and student achievement. Faith-based leaders and churches piloted a model of engagement with schools and community facilitated by Vincent Cobb, community engagement graduate assistant through ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s School of Education. Findings indicated that efforts with last year’s faith-based organization were 84 percent effective in areas of engagement, actual families served, measureable outcomes and student response. Funding from the event will help to continue support efforts, such as church site homework help centers, parent home access training workshops, college tours for students during school breaks, speed mentoring conferences and evening academic enrichment programs.
Announcements of major gifts for faith-based programs and recognition and honors for work being done in the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ community will also be featured as well.
