SU Showcase will sponsor “What’s On Your Plate?,” a food action workshop, beginning Nov. 13.

Participants can learn to take action on such critical local issues as food justice, food waste or the environmental or health impacts of food choices. They will work with local experts and students across disciplines to make a difference.

This workshop has three components:

• attendance at “Food Politics from Farm to Table: A Recipe for Change,” a University Lectures presentation by Marion Nestle, on Tuesday, Oct. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel.
• attendance at dinner and a panel discussion with community and university leaders on food issues on Friday, Nov. 16, from 6-9 p.m. Following the discussion, students will develop proposals (individually or in teams) for an action project and a timeline for completing it.
• independent work in student teams to complete the project before the conclusion of the semester.

Students may receive one credit of independent study for completing the workshop requirements. This workshop is open to students in all schools, colleges and majors.

The workshop is a project of SU Showcase, which is partnering with the University Lectures and other major campus events to enhance their impact and promote sustainability education across the disciplines.
