Suzie Gagnon

The Newhouse School and the Bandier Program in the will bring artist, musician and Cirque du Soleil performer Suzie Gagnon to campus this month. She will host a screening and discussion of the film “Alegría” on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the Halmi Screening Room, 141 Newhouse 3. She will also speak on “The Business of Cirque du Soleil” as part of the Bandier Program Soyars Leadership Lecture Series on Sept. 12, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lender Auditorium, 007 Whitman School of Management.

Gagnon is a 17-year veteran of Cirque du Soleil, with which she has appeared in nearly 6,000 performances. A child prodigy on the accordion, she recorded five CDs of traditional Quebécois folk music by the age of 17. After receiving her degree in French literature and philosophy from Laval University, she auditioned for the circus and has been on the road since—first with the show “Alegría” for 10 years and currently with “Corteo.” In addition, she has pursued a range of independent projects, from recordings to film.

Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, contact Doug Quin at 315-443-7398 or dhquin@syr.edu.
