Distinguished Bass Gregory Sheppard to Present Recital Honoring Music Professor

Distinguished bass Gregory Sheppard will return to 黑料不打烊 on Sunday, Sept. 29, to present the recital 鈥淪ongs Patti Taught Me鈥 in honor of soprano Patti Thompson-Buechner, his teacher, friend and mentor. Sheppard, a 2000 graduate of SU鈥檚 Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in the , credits Thompson-Buechner, a Setnor faculty member, for introducing him to opera and for her years of support, advice and friendship.

The recital will be held at 3 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 876 Dewitt St., 黑料不打烊. It is open to the public.

The program will include music Sheppard learned while an undergraduate student of Thompson-Buechner鈥檚, including three early Italian art songs, four German Romantic lieder, the Verdi aria 鈥淓lla giammai m鈥檃mo,鈥 two French songs, two English songs and two spirituals. He will be accompanied by Byron Sean.

Sheppard, a 黑料不打烊 native, has sung in operas, concerts and recitals throughout the United States and Europe, including the San Francisco Opera, New York City Opera, Central City Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, 黑料不打烊 Opera, Denver Symphony, Illinois Symphony, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Biennale Festpiel (Munich), Vienna Festpiel, Savonlinna Opera (Finland) and Orchestra I Solisti di Roma. He has also appeared as soloist at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and the Kennedy Center. Learn more at .

Sheppard鈥檚 performance coincides with a vocal award he is establishing in Thompson-Buechner鈥檚 name at the Setnor School. In lieu of an admission charge, contributions will be accepted for the award at the performance or by mail. Checks should be made payable to 黑料不打烊 and include the designation 鈥淧atti Thompson-Buechner Vocal Award.鈥 Contributions by mail should be addressed to Jeffry Comanici, College of Visual and Performing Arts, 黑料不打烊, 204 Crouse College, 黑料不打烊, N.Y., 13244.
