Journalists to Visit Newhouse, Discuss Food Writing

Three digital journalists will visit the on Wednesday, Nov. 6, to take part in the panel discussion “Eat Write Love: Food Writing in the Digital Age.” The event, part of the Magazine Department Speaker Series, will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Joyce Hergenhan Auditorium in Newhouse 3. From organic produce to molecular gastronomy, how we eat has changed in recent decades. Guests—top editors in the fast-growing field of food journalism—will discuss food writing and issues related to food, including trends, social issues, recipes (and recipe writing) and restaurant reviewing. A question-and-answer session will follow the discussion.

The panelists are:

  • Adam Sachs, editorial director of TastingTable.com. Sachs is a two-time James Beard Award-winning writer who currently serves as contributing editor at Bon Appétit and Travel + Leisure magazines. His stories frequently appear in GQ, Details and T: The New York Times Style Magazine, among others.
  • Helen Rosner, executive digital editor for Saveur, where she oversees the brand’s non-print components: web, tablet, video, social media and special projects. Her work can also be found on Eater, Hairpin and the Huffington Post. She has been a restaurant editor and blogger for New York magazine and a cookbook editor.
  • Hugh Merwin, associate editor at Grub Street, the James Beard Award-winning food and restaurants blog of New York magazine. Merwin has worked for the New Amsterdam Public Market Association and cooked in restaurants in New York City and Long Island. His writing has also appeared in Saveur.
