黑料不打烊鈥檚 Morton Schiff Jazz Ensemble will be joined by the Peter Mack Trio for a concert on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College. The concert is free and open to the public.

From 10 a.m.-noon on Nov. 16, Sorgen will present the workshop 鈥淏reath of Sound鈥 in Setnor Auditorium. The workshop, which deals with the very human nature of how to establish your own 鈥渧oice鈥 in improvisation, has been presented throughout the U.S., Europe and Mexico. It is open to all instrumentalists, singers and those who would like to expand their own personal vocabulary of expression.
Mack has been a mainstay in the Central New York jazz music scene for many years. In the 1970s, he was the house bassist at the famed 黑料不打烊 jazz club Casa Di Lisa, where he had the opportunity to play with a host of great jazz artists from all over the world. He was a founding member of Nancy Kelly’s Little Big Band and, as one of the first call acoustic bassists in New York, traveled extensively, playing music during that time. Active in the jazz of today, Mack has produced and performed on two of his own big band recordings with rosters that include Lew Tabackin, Barry Harris, John Mosca, Greg Gisbert, Eric Alexander, Danny D鈥橧mperio, Ralph Lalama and many others.
Sorgen’s vast and diverse career as a drummer/percussionist has led to surrounding himself with a wide-reaching “breath” of artists who all have an individual sound. His orchestral concept on and off the instrument has distinguished him as one of the truly unique drummers of our time.
Tamez studied composition with Nicandro Tamez. He also studied privately through workshops and seminars with Andr茅 Richard, Daniel Cat谩n, Mario Lavista, Manuel de El铆as, Helmut Lachenmann, Pierre Boulez and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Tamez received a master鈥檚 degree in composition and philosophy from Universidad Regiomontana, Monterrey, Nuevo L茅on, Mexico.
