SU Wind Ensemble to Perform with Conductor Kenneth Bloomquist

The 黑料不打烊 Wind Ensemble will present a concert featuring guest conductor Kenneth Bloomquist, director of bands emeritus of Michigan State University (MSU), on Tuesday, April 1, at 8 p.m. in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College.

The program will include Holst鈥檚 Second Suite in F for Military Band, Ticheli鈥檚 鈥淟och Lomond,鈥 Gould鈥檚 鈥淢arches鈥 from Symphony for Band and Bagley鈥檚 鈥淣ational Emblem March.鈥

Bloomquist joined the MSU faculty in 1970 as director of bands, coming from the University of Kansas, where he held the same position. He was director of the MSU School of Music from 1978-88.

Bloomquist is past president of the American Bandmasters Association and past president of the National Band Association (NBA). He is also a member of the College Band Directors National Association. He has received numerous honors and awards, including the American School Band Directors Association Harding Award, the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Orpheus Award, the NBA Citation of Excellence and induction into the NBA Hall of Fame. In 2004, he was awarded the prestigious Medal of Honor from the Midwest Clinic, an international band and orchestra conference.

Professor Bloomquist has appeared as guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator throughout the United States, Europe, Scandinavia, Southeast Asia, Japan, Australia and Mexico. In 2000, 2001, 2004 and 2005 he was guest conductor at the Czech Music Camp for Youth in the Czech Republic. In 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2005 he was conductor-in-residence at the Musashino Academia Musicae in Tokyo, Japan.

The Wind Ensemble is the University鈥檚 premiere concert band and is primarily made up of musicians from within the Setnor School, part of the .

The concert is free and open to the public. Free and accessible parking is available in the Q1 lot. Additional parking is available in the Irving Garage. Campus parking availability is subject to change; call 315-443-2191 for current information.
