Hendricks Chapel Choir’s Spring Concert Is April 27

The Hendricks Chapel Choir, under the direction of Peppie Calvar, will present “Finzi, Friends and Fragments,” a concert of an all English-language choral repertoire on Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel.

The concert is the choir’s spring performance and is free and open to the public. Free parking will be available in the Q1 lot and the Irving Garage on a first-come, first-served basis. Those attending are asked to bring coats to donate to those in need in the greater ϲ community.

The first half of the program will feature a collection of British choral works accompanied by ϲ Organist Kola Owolabi, including works by Finzi, Händel, Rutter and Britten, with voice solos by Danielle Coombe ’14, Anna Lilikas ’14, Michael Landivar ’16 and M. Cody Engstrom ’15.

After a brief intermission, the choir will present a new spiritual arranged by Rollo Dilworth and conducted by assistant conductor Denise Villa-Ignacio ’15, and fragments of M. Roger Holland’s rousing “The Sound of My People,” a liturgical Mass setting in the urban contemporary Gospel style. Owolabi and Calvar will play piano and bass, respectively, and Engstrom and Gabriel Smolnycki ’17 will play keyboard and drums. The event will conclude with an acknowledgement of the choir’s graduating seniors. A reception will follow in the Noble Room.
