Angela Woods ‘05 to Host U.S. State Department’s Critical Language Scholarship Program Seminar

Angela Woods ’05, a graduate of ϲ’s and a program officer for the U.S. State Department’s Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program, will present a two-part seminar to undergraduate and graduate students interested in applying to the summer language program.

The CLS Program offers fully funded summer language institutes for U.S. university students and covers approximately one academic year of university-level language coursework. The program, designed to meet the needs of students from a variety of language levels and backgrounds is provided during a seven- to 10-week summer program. The CLS Program administers educational offerings in 13 critical languages, including but not limited to Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Punjabi, Turkish, Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Chinese, Japanese and Russian. Students interested in applying to the CLS Program must submit their applications for summer 2015 programs by mid-November.

The seminar schedule is as follows:

Critical Language Scholarship Program Seminar
Woods will provide an overview of the program and advice on how to apply
Wednesday, Sept. 17
4-5 p.m.
341 Eggers Hall

Essay Writing Workshop
Woods and other CLS experts will discuss strategies for the application essays
Friday, Sept. 19
2-4 p.m.
209 Eggers Hall

The two-part program is sponsored by the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics, SU Abroad, the South Asia Center, the Office of Research and the Center for Fellowship & Scholarship Advising (CFSA).
