Conductor Rebecca Rottsolk to Lead 12th Annual Women鈥檚 Choir Festival Oct. 25

Distinguished conductor Rebecca Rottsolk of Seattle will be the guest conductor for 黑料不打烊鈥檚 12th Annual Invitational Women鈥檚 Choir Festival and concert on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 4 p.m. Approximately 175 high school and collegiate women singers from New York State will join forces to present the concert 鈥淗ere, In Love and Majesty鈥 in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College. It is free and open to the public.

The festival is hosted by the SU Women鈥檚 Choir and under the artistic direction of Barbara M. Tagg, faculty member in the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in the . Participating guest choirs will include the Phoenix Club from SUNY Potsdam鈥檚 Crane School of Music under the direction of Rebecca Reames; Vox Caeciliae from Immaculata Academy (Hamburg, N.Y.) under the direction of Kathleen Bassett; Jamesville-DeWitt High School Women鈥檚 Choir (Jamesville, N.Y.) under the direction of Elizabeth A. Quackenbush; and Spencerport High School Treble Choir (Spencerport, N.Y.) under the direction of Ann M. Murphy.

Under the direction of Rottsolk, the combined choirs will sing 鈥淎 Witness to Majesty鈥 by Andrea Ramsey, 鈥淭undra鈥 by Ola Gjeilo and 鈥淗ere鈥 by Joan Szymko. Performances by the individual choirs will include 鈥淒iu Diu Dang A,鈥 a Taiwanese folksong arranged by Chien Shan-Hua, 鈥淓vening鈥 by Ruth Morris Gray, 鈥淚 Am Only One鈥 by Adolphus Hailstork, 鈥淥 bone Jesu鈥 by Johannes Brahms and 鈥淓atnemen Vuelie鈥 by Frode Fjellheim.

Rottsolk is co-founder/director of Mirinesse Women鈥檚 Choir, an auditioned choir of 60 women. Many of the singers are alumnae of the Northwest Girlchoir (NWGC), for which Rottsolk served as artistic director from 1982-2001. Under her direction, NWGC became one of the most respected youth choral programs in America.

Rottsolk is a frequent guest conductor of all-state choirs and festivals as well as workshops on conducting and rehearsal technique. She edits a choral series for Alliance Music Publications. She holds degrees from St. Olaf College and Pacific Lutheran University and is a past national chair of the American Choral Directors Association National Committee on Children鈥檚 Choirs.

For most Setnor Auditorium concerts, free and accessible parking is available in the Q-1 lot. If the lot is full or unavailable, patrons will be directed to an alternate lot.
