The “Cripping” the Comic Con conference and comics convention is now accepting proposals for the 2015 symposium. The deadline for submitting proposals is Jan. 26. This year’s theme is “Game Over …?,” which will explore the various ways in which games, gaming and virtual media reflect and create understandings and interpretations of disability in popular culture.
“One of our primary goals as symposium organizers is to create opportunities for all participants—particularly students and emerging scholars—to share their work,” says Diane Wiener, director of the Disability Cultural Center and co-organizer of the symposium. “Since representations in popular culture are generally created outside of academic environments, we also encourage the general public to engage in conversations about popular culture and disability and submit proposal ideas.”
Proposal types and formats may include: individual presentations, panel presentations, discussions, workshops, roundtables, performance, video, film, art or poster sessions, among others. Anyone is eligible to submit a proposal, and multiple proposals are welcomed and encouraged.
