(iSchool) Interim Dean Jeff Stanton has named Assistant Professor of Practice as senior associate dean, effective Jan. 1.

Barbara Stripling

Barbara Stripling

Stripling joined the faculty at the iSchool in a full-time capacity in January 2012, after serving for six years as director of library services for New York City’s Department of Education. She had served as an adjunct professor for the iSchool from 2007-2011.

In May of 2012, Stripling was president of the American Library Association (ALA) for 2013-2014.

“I am both honored and excited to accept this new responsibility in the iSchool,” says Stripling. “Through my experiences as director of school libraries in New York City and president of the ALA, I have learned that effective leadership is empowering others to do their best work.”

“Barbara is an extraordinarily capable leader, and has recently finished a very successful year leading the ALA,” notes Stanton. “I am confident that she will serve the school well in her role as senior associate dean, and look forward to working with her in that capacity.”

As part of her duties as senior associate dean, Stripling will work with a faculty team on a high-level plan to help guide the iSchool’s curriculum and programs over the coming years.

“I look forward to engaging with students, faculty, staff and Interim Dean Jeff Stanton,” says Stripling, “and being part of the team to move all of us forward in achieving our goals.”

At the iSchool, Stripling teaches courses that include school library literacy; school library management; information management in schools; and library planning, marketing and assessment.
