On Jan. 1, of the joined the ranks of top electrical and computer engineers, earning the prestigious distinction of an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Fellow. IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional association with over 400,000 members in 160 countries.
Biao Chen
This honor is reserved for those whose extraordinary accomplishments have “contributed to the advancement or application of engineering, science, and technology; bringing the realization of significant value to society.” Chen received the designation for his contributions to decentralized signal processing in sensor networks and interference management of wireless networks.
Chen has been a member of the since 2000. His research focuses on statistical signal processing and information theory with applications to communications and decentralized inference. In his communications lab, current research projects are advancing information fusion, interference channels, MIMO communication with airborne platforms and software radio design. He was also a finalist in DARPA’s Spectrum Challenge in 2014.
