Scott Barrett has been named associate dean for strategic communications and external affairs at the . He will assume his new position on May 8.

Barrett has led all aspects of fundraising, as well as corporate and strategic communications, for higher education and healthcare organizations. Since 2011, he has served as assistant dean for advancement at the . He also has served as vice president of advancement at Le Moyne College, and prior to that as director of annual giving at Hamilton College.
“Scott Barrett has built an extraordinary record of achievement in external affairs,” says Steinberg. “He brings dynamism, vision and a commitment to collegial engagement that will help Maxwell and ϲ achieve greater awareness of, and support for, our remarkable faculty, students and staff.”
In his new senior leadership role at the Maxwell School, Barrett will oversee strategic planning and implementation in communications, media relations, domestic and international fundraising, alumni relations and other external affairs. He will work with the dean and other colleagues in building an external profile with an international reach for the school and, with others, further develop initiatives for the Tenth Decade Project.
During his more than two decades of advancement and external affairs experience, Barrett has achieved record philanthropic results. He has extensive experience in identifying, recruiting and engaging leadership donors and volunteers, and he has worked with individuals, corporations and foundation donors on contributions up to $50 million.
Barrett holds a bachelor of arts degree from Hamilton College, where he majored in government.
