The College of Law will host a public hearing on civil legal services led by the Honorable Jonathan Lippman, chief judge of the State of New York, on Wednesday, Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Melanie Gray Ceremonial Courtroom in Dineen Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The chief judge is conducting one meeting in each of the state’s four Appellate Division Departments together with the presiding justice of that judicial department. This meeting is being conducted in the Fourth Department with Presiding Justice Henry J. Scudder, along with Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence K. Marks and President of the New York State Bar Association David P. Miranda.
The officials will hear oral testimony about unmet needs for civil legal services. One of the stated purposes of the hearing is to consider “law student involvement in serving communities in need through clinical, experiential and fellowship options for students, including the Pro Bono Scholars Program.”
Oral testimony is by invitation only. Interested parties should email civillegalservices@nycourts.gov no later than 14 days in advance of the hearing. Written testimony can also be submitted at least seven days in advance of the hearing to civillegalservices@nycourts.gov.
