A book written by (iSchool) Associate Professor Jennifer Stromer-Galley has been selected as the 2015 by the National Communication Association鈥檚 (NCA) Political Communication Division.

鈥淲ith 20 excellent books nominated for this year鈥檚聽award, the committee 鈥� felt that “ was particularly outstanding in making a significant contribution to political communication scholarship 鈥� [and is] a truly important book,鈥� wrote Jay Childers, chair of the NCA Political Communication Division awards for 2015.
Winners will be acknowledged at the NCA鈥檚 聽in Las Vegas.
Stromer-Galley said of receiving the honor, 鈥淭ruthfully, I鈥檓 honored beyond words that the book was given the award. I鈥檝e always hoped I might write a book that might win this award, but I never expected I鈥檇 actually do so.鈥� She noted that her book 鈥渋s a culmination of over a decade worth of research, and it was painful at times to write and hard to finish. It鈥檚 also an odd book in its format and method, and so I did not think it would be award-worthy because it doesn鈥檛 fit the mold鈥攚hich makes the award that much sweeter to have received.鈥�
The book challenges popular claims about the democratizing effect of digital communication technologies (DCTs). It analyzes campaign strategies, structures and tactics from the past five presidential election cycles to reveal how, despite the promise of increased communication between candidates and the individuals who support them, DCTs have done little to change the fundamental dynamics of campaigns.
