Jesse Feitel and Kevin Smith, both third-year students in the , won the 44th Annual Mackenzie Hughes LLP Appellate Advocacy Competition. During the final round, Feitel and Smith prevailed against finalists Sarah Ballard and Shannon Crane, both second-year students.

The College of Law’s Moot Court Honor Society hosted the competition, which featured twenty-six students in teams of two competing over several weeks.
The competition was judged by Chancellor Kent Syverud; Theodore A. McKee L’75, Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit; Mae D’Agostino L’80, District Judge, United States District Court for the Northern District of New York; William Q. Hayes L’83, District Judge, United States District Court for the Southern District of California; and Thérèse Wiley Dancks L’91, United States Magistrate Judge, Northern District of New York.
In addition, Feitel won Best Overall Advocate and Best Final Round Advocate, while Ballard and Crane took home the Best Brief award.
