Today marks an important day in the history of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. March 24 is National Orange Day, the anniversary of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, which was founded in 1870.

“It’s really a celebration of all things ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ” says Gus Whitaker ’16 a member of the Student Philanthropy Council. “It’s us celebrating 146 years of our traditions and legacy. I think it’s important to recognize the founding of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and to also recognize all of the people who have given in the spirit of Philanthropy Week.”

This year, National Orange Day is being recognized in ways large and small. One very large venture is the brainchild of Jason Yaley ’05, G ’06, who created Orange Around the World. It involves stuffing care packages full of items with Orange appeal donated by members of the university community. Today, those items will be shipped to 325 active duty members who are ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ alumni.

This day is also marked with service projects taking place nationwide, and involving alumni chapters in cities around the country.

And of course, no birthday celebration would be complete without some cake. That is part of the celebration at Schine as well.

Along with promoting National Orange Day, Whitaker is involved in signing up students for Class Act. Class Act gives seniors the chance to make a difference for future SU students—and leave a legacy on the SU campus. More information on Class Act and Philanthropy Week can be .
